Tips To Eat a little better When Traveling away for Work
I get it, travelling away for work can be a bit of nightmare when trying to stay healthy and in charge of YOUR goals.
Lots of hours on planes trains and automobiles to deal with, a severe lack of sleep and lots of terrible food to choose from.
So, this got me thinking and I thought I would put together a few ideas of how to make sure your trip is not an unhealthy one.
>>Here's what you can do..
If you have more than 24 Hours notice (most of you do!) this is the time to plan an extra few minutes to prepare, in order for you to make a few better choices when you travel.
If you PLAN your journey, this will give you the opportunity to see where you can pick up the odd snack.
Doing this will ultimately ensure that the fuel (food) that you pick, is a mindful choice and you won't grab a quick on the go Rustler Burger.
HOWEVER, IF YOU DON'T LIKE TO PLAN, HERE ARE SOME TOP TIPS:
Pack some better snacks when you are travelling and a few extras for your destination.
I.E: Try popcorn (not the buttered kind!) chopped veg (peppers, carrots etc) and some nuts. Or even make yourself an egg fratarte (omelette type thing) and eat it cold, it tastes better than it sounds.
Instead of buying pre packed sandwiches, why not pick up your food in separate packs. I.E - Cooked meats, salad bag etc (Marks & Spencers is awesome for this)
Then it's time for a picnic..!
Once you have all your bits and bobs, you can then make your own lunch of cooked meats, wraps and salad. This will make sure that at least you know it wont be full of the crap.
At the hotel, go continental for your breakfast. Avoid the muffins — which often contain 350 - 450 calories or more. Grab a couple of pieces of fresh fruit to enjoy as a snack later in the day.
This can be the nightmare for some of you. If you need to eat out be sure to have a good protein source, lean meats with an order of 2 servings of veg with limited carbs.
>>After all you are a grown up, the choice is all yours.<<
Watch your portion sizes, this can be the killer, even if food is high quality.
What i am trying to say is, if you eat too much no matter what the quality is, you will still get FAT.
The night is near and this is the time where you will need to watch out for the drinks with high-sugar additions. Drinks such as margaritas and cocktails with fruit juices or soft drinks.
Make a bit more of a mindful choice and pick drinks that or on the rocks, or choose a glass of wine.
I bet you thought i was going to say drink water and eat lettuce leaves...

What a disaster (so some people thought), I put up a video of my breakfast the other day..
A breakfast of glrorious proportions that was nutritious and full of yummy goodness...
What was the problem..?
It was bacon and eggs, with a bit of black pudding..mmmm! Cooked in coconut oil (saturated fat)
This is when the keyboard warrior started his opening gambit..
"I think what you have posted is irresponsible, don’t you know that all that saturated FAT is bad for you..!"
I wont tll you the rest, i can't even be arsed to tell you what else he put, however, It got me thinking of what kind of message is out there and why are so many people avoiding something that we need for normal everyday function.
Is it mis-information from their Personal Trainers..?
Is it the media and their take on what is healthy and what is not..?
What ever it is, it is all BS..!
We all need saturated fat..?
So here are a few reasons why bacon and eggs are good. (in moderation)
If you consume the right amount, it can reduce the levels of lipoprotein, a BIG risk factor for heart disease. (No drugs or secret pills can do this). This will increase your chance of living a healthy life and limit your risk of hear disease.
Even though we need calcium for our bones, saturated fat is great for strong bones as it helps the calcium absorb. We often see women/men who go on low fat diets by reducing their saturated fat and replacing it with processed oils like vegetable and canola, it is then that they have later onset of osteoporosis (brittle bones).
Optimal for liver health
Saturated fats are the rulers when it comes to optimal liver function and protecting the liver from medicines/ALCOHOL that harm etc. (Why do you think your greasy kebab works for your hang over!! (this is a joke for all those keyboard warriors out there!)
The lungs are coated in a slippy substance to help with function, guess what that slippy substance is…? Yep, you guessed right, its saturated fat.. (the good stuff/fats)
Healthy Brain function
The brain is made up of a lot of saturated fat, if you stop ingesting these fats, the brain can lose its function to repair…(this may be why so many Personal Trainers who peddle low fat diets are stooopid, because they have improper brain function..#truth #rufflingfeathers
“Certain saturated fats, particularly those found in butter, lard, coconut oil, and palm oil, function directly as signalling messengers that influence the metabolism, including such critical jobs as the appropriate release of insulin.” (They stop you getting FAT)
Immune system function
“Saturated fats found in butter and coconut oil (myristic acid and lauric acid) play key roles in immune health. Loss of sufficient saturated fatty acids in the white blood cells hampers their ability to recognize and destroy foreign invaders, such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi. Human breast milk is quite rich in myristic and lauric acid, which have potent germ-killing ability. But the importance of the fats lives on beyond infancy; we need dietary replenishment of them throughout adulthood, middle age, and into seniority to keep the immune system vigilant against the development of cancerous cells as well as infectious invaders.” – Dr Eades.
It is sad to see that so many companies/Personal Trainers push low fat diets on unsuspecting clients, just to make money out of a malnourished cleint, who loses weight quickly and looks good for a Personal Trainers page or instagram.
You are probabaly thinking to yourself, is this me, have i been duped..."If only every trainer was honest, i might just lose the weight that has crept up on me..
P.s Dont think it cant happen to you and dont be suprised if it does..
P.p.s if you have any comments, please leve them below, if you have any questions please ask and i will do my best to put you on the right course of action,,

There is one thing we are all good at when times are going well and life seems great. However the hard part seems to come when we are put down or life takes a turn for the worst.
To top it off when we feel bad it seems that everyone else around us is smashing it, we all see what their social media is telling us, don’t we..? They are in a great relationship, work is amazeballs etc…they are haveing such an awesome life, that it kinda makes some of us a bit jealous.
You see the thing is, we often love to see people do well and become successful, we also say how lucky they are, without thinking of the BIG journey it took to get them where they are, do we..?
We all seem to see the big picture of them relaxing on the beach chilling with a cocktail, instead of the long HARD video of their life showing how they got there in the first place…The video that would show the struggle, the pain, the adversity etc… that they had to overcome to make it.
What I am trying to say is that no one who is successful goes through life without being tested.
How many people who lost weight, got strong, made it in business etc… had an easy journey..? How many times did they slip up, eat crap or get rejected and sink backwards a few steps, just to get up and move forward another ten because of their positive growth mindset..?
Look, the concept of get rich quick schemes in business, drop a dress size sustainably in 2 weeks, magic pills for strength gain… they just don’t exist… #fact
Life is a test and it is up to you whether you pass or fail…. As soon as you start blaming others for your failures, YOU WILL FAIL.
You have the choice, whether you want to take some responsibility and be positive about the outcome or play the blame game and be negative.
Staying positive is not about being fake and smiling through the hard times or believing that you can do it on your own. It is about being upbeat and asking for help from those who will bring that positive side to the surface. (Get a coach)
The measure of your success is not determined by how you act when life is great, but how you think and respond to the challenges you will undoubtedly face when life gets a bit hard.
To finish of, here is an awesome quote from ROCKY (Sly Stallone) that encompasses all of the above:
“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!”
